A one-act play titled: English Only

Hart Chapel  7:00 p.m.

The Office of Social Equity is pleased to bring the celebrated author James Chapmyn to Clarion.  Mr. Chapmyn is accompanying the two performers who will bring his play to life; actors Donny Monaco and Jorge Vidangos.  This one-act ply explores the challenge of biculturalism in America.  The play focuses on two brothers of Hispanic heritage who view their heritage in diametrically different ways.  One brother refuses to acknowledge his heritage, while the other is proud of his culture and advocates for diversity and acceptance.  The brothers struggle to come to terms with each other and their relationship with racism, and with their identity in the American community.  James Chapmyn has written several other plays and an off-Broadway hit play titled Our Young Black Men Are Dying and Nobody Cares. English Only is appealing because even though it is about Hispanic Culture, its message is applicable to persons from other cultures as well.  The performance will be followed by an open discussion.
