Van Safety

In recognition of the special safety considerations required when driving 15 passenger vans, Clarion University's policy regarding the use and issuance of these vehicles has changed in several important ways.
  • First, only University employees and graduate student employees may operate 15 passenger vans.  Undergraduate student employees are not permitted to operate these vehicles.
  • Second, employees who wish to operate these vans must first participate in a van drivers' safety workshop.  The workshops will last four hours and participants will be able to practice driving and parking these vehicles.  Clarion University's van driver safety workshops are based on the National Safety Council's Coaching the Van Driver curriculum.  The course is designed for people who drive cargo or passenger vans as part of their job and should enhance a driver's ability to respond safely and effectively to situations that can potentially result in a traffic collision.

For more information, contact the university's safety inspector at xtn2009.
