Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I obtain a parking permit?

A: Applications for parking permits are available on line beginning in July.  r.  The application should be submited by August 1st. Students can also obtain a permit by coming to the Public Safety Building, Thorn 1, after August 13.

Q: Is everyone eligible for a permit?

A: All prior parking tickets must be paid before a permit will be issued. In addition, commuter students who live closer to campus than the 4th Avenue radius are not eligible for any university parking permit and are expected to park at their local residence and walk to campus.

Q: Will permits sell out?

A: A limited number of permits is sold in each permit group. If permits sell out for a particular group, students may still be issued a permit to park at the stadium, which is 8/10 of a mile from campus.

Q: Where can visitors park?

A: Permits are not required at any metered parking spot. A limited number of meters are located in most on-campus lots. Between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM, visitors may also go to the Public Safety office to obtain a temporary permit. Permits are required between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. From 4:00 PM until 2:00 AM, permits are not required in any employee or commuter lot. There is no parking in employee or commuter lots after 2:00 AM daily. Residence hall lots are enforced 24 hours a day, Monday through Friday.

Q: I live on-campus and a friend is planning on spending the night during the week. Where can they park?

A: Overnight visitors should come to the Public Safety office to obtain a temporary permit to park at the stadium. On weekends, overnight visitors may park in lots 3, 5, 8, 10, and 14.

Q: How do I pay a ticket?

A: Payment for tickets can be made in person at the Public Safety Building, Thorn 1. Tickets can also be mailed, or dropped in the ticket collection boxes located in Tippin, Chandler, and Still Halls.

Q: How do I appeal a ticket?

A: Tickets can be appealed to the Parking Committee. Complete the ticket appeal form and send it to Public Safety, along with payment for the ticket. If the appeal is upheld, a refund check is issued.

Q: If I have a stadium permit, can I ever park on campus?

A: From 4:00 PM until 2:00 AM, Monday through Friday, students with stadium permits can park in any employee or commuter lot. On weekends, students with stadium permits can park overnight in residence hall lots. Students with stadium permits may NOT park in any on-campus lot overnight during the week.

Q: Is there a late-night escort service to and from the stadium?

A: No, the Public Safety escort service is limited to on-campus. Students with a stadium permit may park on campus until 2:00 AM. Students are discouraged from walking alone at night and should plan to have a friend walk back to campus with them. Students could also seek a ride back to campus from a neighboring residence hall student who has a vehicle with an on-campus permit.

Q: Why do I need to submit a physician’s statement for a physical impairment  parking permit if I already have a state placard?

A: The application for a University physical impairment permit is separate from the state handicap placard application. The University cannot access information from a state handicapped placard for the purpose of issuing a university permit.

Q: How is permit and ticket revenue spent?

A: Proceeds from parking permits and tickets are used to maintain and improve campus lots. These funds are also used to acquire additional property to be developed for parking.
