Clarion University Construction Update -- 4/18/08

West End Pond Restoration and Renovation

Over the spring and summer, the west end pond at Venango will be returned to its original size and depth and enhanced with amenities to create recreational opportunities for students and the community.  These will include lighted walkways, a pavilion, picnic benches, a four-sided Victorian clock, a new bridge, a fire pit, plantings and others.  Field work on this facility is expected to begin next week.

Campbell Hall Demolition and South Campus Parking Lot

The trees were removed at the end of last week and over the week end allowing for the parking lot construction.  Clean-up and site restoration continued and all remain scrap steel is expected to be trucked to a steel mill to be recycled.

Dining Hall

Roofing continued on the west and south sides of the building.  The block wall construction started on the West side on the main floor and will continue to roof line.  A large section of the main floor dining area was placed Thursday.   The transformer and switchgear, both critical items, are expected on site in May.   Installation of the foundation for the transformer and completion of the associated underground conduit system is planned to be in-place before arrival of the electrical equipment.

Pedestrian/Vehicular traffic and safety:  While the road between Carrier and the new dining hall is now open, there continues to be work on the roof and upper floors near sidewalks and roads.  Construction vehicles will also be entering and leaving the job site to transport materials.  Please use caution near the jobsite.

Science-Technology Building

Installation of the exterior framing continued and is two-thirds complete.  This framing will provide the backing to which the brick/block will be tied.  Two sections of the interior floor were placed this week.   Several sections remain.   The heating/cooling ductwork, plumbing and electrical installation continued.  Major sections of the steam trough were worked on this past week.  The steam trough completion remains slated for May.

Pedestrian/Vehicular traffic and safety:  Trenching is being used to allow workers to connect electric, sewer, water and communications lines to the site.  Please use extra care around excavation and normal pedestrian traffic paths near this site.

On-Campus Residences

Construction on Building 1, which is parallel to Wood Street, is complete to the floor of the fourth floor.  The fourth floor wall framing is expected to begin installation next week and continue through the end of April.  Work on Building 4 roof parapet, near Ralston, continued.

Pedestrian/Vehicular traffic and safety:  Trenching has been dug in the area of both sites and some roads may be temporarily blocked to access the job or utilities.  Please use extra care around excavation and normal pedestrian traffic paths near this site.

Other Pedestrian/Vehicular traffic and safety issues:  Orientation will be using Lot H and Lot 6 for parking on Fridays throughout the spring and summer.  Employees currently parking in Lot H should park in Lot 5 on Fridays.  Overall parking in Lots 5 and 6 will be limited on Fridays.
