Clarion University–Venango Campus Students
Inducted into Honor Society
Clarion University–Venango Campus inducted nineteen
students into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at a ceremony on
Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Quality Inn in Franklin.
Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor
society in American higher education, with more than 1.5 million members and
1,200 chapters located in the United States, U.S. territories, Canada,
Germany, and Japan. The Phi Theta Kappa chapter at
Clarion University–Venango Campus provides opportunities for the development
of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas
and information, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of
interest in continuing academic excellence. Professor Beth Jackson is the
Venango Campus chapter’s advisor.
“You have been recognized for your
excellence, your commitment to others, and your leadership skills and
potential,” Dr. Christopher M. Reber, executive dean of the Venango Campus,
told the inductees. “With your induction comes a commitment on your part to
participate in the important work that Phi Theta Kappa does for our university
and our community.”
Emily Aubele, director of student
affairs at the campus, addressed the students. “Phi Theta Kappa is one of the
world’s largest honors organizations,” she said. “Here at home, PTK is widely
known as one of the most active, respected, and service-oriented groups on
campus and within the community. It truly is an honor to be invited to become
a member of this organization.
Congratulations on your accomplishment, and
thank you for the many ways in which you will continue to make our campus, our
community, and our world, a better place.”
Inductees, with their programs of
study, are Marietta Alfred, Associate of Science in Business Administration
with a minor in Sociology; Chad Beach, Associate of Applied Science in
Industrial Technology with a concentration in Electric Utility Technology;
Cindy Bier, Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education; Lisa Byers,
Associate of Science in Nursing; Laurie Ditz, Associate of Science in Business
Administration with a concentration in General Management; Angela Guth,
Associate of Science in Nursing with a minor in Psychology; Marty Hartman,
Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Technology with a concentration in
Building Maintenance Mechanics; Ericca Haynes, Associate of Science in
Nursing; James Juracko, Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Technology
with a concentration in Electric Utility Technology; Sara Klapec, Associate of
Science in Rehabilitative Services; Catherine Kline, Associate of Science in
Nursing; Hope Lineman, Associate of Science in Arts and Sciences and Bachelor
of Science in Communication with a minor in Speech Communication; Jessica
McDay, Associate of Science in Nursing; Jamie Myers-Huff, Associate of Science
in Nursing; Stephanie Ralph, Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education
and Bachelor of Science in Education; Von Rhoads, Associate of Science in
Nursing; Denise Sybula, Associate of Science in Nursing; Patricia Shontz,
Associate of Science in Business Administration; and Ashley Stroup-McCauley,
Associate of Science in Business Administration.
New officers for the 2006-07 academic
year were installed at the ceremony. They are Joseph Hart, President; Cindy
Bier, Vice President; Patti Shontz, Secretary; and Marie Alfred, Treasurer.
Clarion University-Venango
Campus, located in Oil City, PA, is the oldest regional campus in
Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. The campus provides
