VENANGO CAMPUS NURSING GRADUATE TO LAUNCH

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT IN THE ROBERT W. RHOADES CENTER

Kristen Padalino, an alumna of Clarion University–Venango Campus, will open an exhibit of her photography with a reception at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2007, in the Robert W. Rhoades Center at the campus. The reception is free and open to the public.

The photographs were taken during the four months that Ms. Padalino lived and studied in Siracusa, Sicily, where she went to learn about her family’s heritage and experience what life is like for her relatives.

A registered nurse who earned her Clarion University Associate of Science in Nursing degree, Ms. Padalino is completing her bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology,

Ms. Padalino says that photography allows her to capture the obvious and that which is easily overlooked.  She sought, in this collection, to capture the beauty and culture of the Mediterranean, especially the island of Sicily, which she says “captured her soul” during her stay.

She studied many aspects of Mediterranean culture, including the Italian language, art and architecture, the Mafia, Italian politics, Ancient Greek and Roman medicine, and Vulconology. Her studies afforded her many hands-on opportunities, including climbing the most active volcano in Europe, Mt. Etna, during an eruption.

For more information about the exhibit, please contact the Venango Campus Office of Student Affairs at 814-676-6591, extension 1269.
