Clarion University–Venango Campus
Launches
New Format for Early Childhood Education
Degree
Clarion University–Venango Campus will launch a new part-time program format
in early childhood education this fall. The part-time Associate of Science
in Early Childhood Education degree program is designed to accommodate the
schedules of those who are working and is offered through a blend of live
and online classes over a four-year period.
This program offers students the maximum in flexibility. There
are only five traditional class meetings, all offered in the evening and
each about three hours long, per course. The rest of each course is
completed by the student on-line. The 60-credit program accepts students in
the fall of each year.
The program is designed to provide students with the knowledge
and skills needed to work directly with families and other professionals in
a variety of child care education settings such as Head Start, child care
centers, child development programs, public education classrooms, and early
intervention programs. It provides a strong background for those desiring to
continue their education at the baccalaureate level.
Current trends and new state regulations require extended
educational opportunities to those employed in, or those interested in,
careers in early childhood, especially those working in Head Start and other
preschool child care programs. The Early Childhood Associate Degree Program
at Clarion University–Venango Campus was developed to make those
opportunities available to those currently working in such child care
environments.
Financial and other support is available to Pennsylvania
residents working in child care settings to enable them to earn their
associate degree while continuing to work. Clarion University–Venango Campus
participates in the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® PENNSYLVANIA scholarship
program, which is administered by is the Pennsylvania Child Care
Association.
