Clarion University Nursing Student to Present Talk about African Adventure

OIL CITY-Linda Robertson, a senior in Clarion University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program, will present slides of her experiences in Malawi, known as "The Warm Heart of Africa," on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at 7:30 PM in rooms 250-252 in Gemmell Student Center on the Clarion campus.

Ms. Robertson lives in Avalon, Pennsylvania, and is the Director of Nursing at Allegheny General Hospital Suburban Campus in Pittsburgh.

In the summer of 2007, she traveled to Malawi, which is located in the Sub-Saharan, or central, part of Africa, as part of a mission trip sponsored by the Malawian Partnership of the Pittsburgh Presbytery. There are 31 churches in the Pittsburgh area that have "sister churches" in Malawi. While in Malawi, Ms. Robertson met and came to understand the hopes, dreams, and challenges women face in the third poorest country in the world and also to realize the true meaning of the term "global citizen."

Ms. Robertson embarks on another mission on February 22 to study the African response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Sponsored by the Presbyterian Church (USA), this travel-study trip will take her to Capetown and Johannesburg in South Africa, and to northern Malawi, where she will meet with the Prime Minister of Health.
