OIL
CITY, PA-Neil
E. Todhunter, President of UPMC Northwest, has joined the Clarion
University–Venango Campus Advisory Council. Comprised of twenty community
leaders and chaired by Libby Williams, the Advisory Council offers advice
and assists with the campus’ strategic planning and development.
Mr. Todhunter has long been
involved with the Venango Campus through his support of collaborative
programs with the university’s School of Nursing and Allied Health.
Through the hospital’s “Back to School” program, a group of 23 UPMC
Northwest employees recently earned their Associate of Science in Nursing
degrees by attending classes part-time at the Venango Campus over a period
of four years while working full-time at the hospital. The university and
hospital have also been partners for many years in preparing students for
careers in radiologic technology through a collaborative bachelor’s degree
program in which more than 100 students are now enrolled. Plans are
currently developing for a respiratory therapy program slated to begin in
fall 2006.
“My colleagues and I value our
close working relationship with Mr. Todhunter and others at UPMC Northwest
immensely,” said Dr. Christopher M. Reber, executive dean of the Venango
Campus. “By working together, we have been able to make significant
progress in meeting the critical health care workforce needs of our region
and beyond. We are delighted that Mr. Todhunter has agreed to offer his
expertise to help guide the campus in the years to come.”
After graduation from Venango Christian High
School, Mr. Todhunter attended classes at the Venango Campus before
joining the United States Air Force as a medical corpsman. He earned a
Bachelor of Business Administration with High Honors from Tri‑State
College, Angola, Indiana, and a Master of Professional Studies, Hospital
and Health Services Administration from Cornell Graduate School of
Business and Public Administration. In 1974, he began his health care
administration career with his appointment as Assistant Administrator of
the Oil City Hospital.
