offices of Frankfort, Kentucky and Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also has worked in
the policing, juvenile justice, and correctional fields. Steinmann’s
responsibilities at Venango Campus will include teaching courses in criminal
justice, advising students and working with university administrators to grow
the program
“We’re delighted to
have someone with Rick Steinmann’s experience and credentials to help lead our
new criminal justice program,” said Dr. Christopher M. Reber, executive dean of
Clarion University–Venango Campus. “His varied experience in law enforcement,
legal offices and academia make him an ideal person to prepare students for work
in the
growing field of criminal justice where career opportunities include criminal
investigation, corrections, probation, parole, or court administration.”
Steinmann has
published articles and presented professional papers on legal rights matters,
juvenile justice issues, racial profiling, so-called inmate frivolous law suits,
and other topics. He was a member of the St. Charles County (Missouri) Gang
Awareness and Prevention Task Force and chaired the Bay Area Youth Services
organization (Tampa, Florida) which provides juvenile offenders with counseling,
restitution, and community work projects. He is a member of the Academy of
Criminal Justice Sciences and the American Society of Criminology.
“The
opportunity to start a new criminal justice program is an exciting personal
challenge," said Steinmann, who holds a juris doctorate from Hamline University
School of Law and a master of science degree in criminal justice from Youngstown
State University in addition to undergraduate degrees in sociology and police
science. “Venango Campus’ program will prepare students to enter and advance in
the criminal justice field through providing knowledge about the many facets of
the criminal justice system. It also will improve student’s communication and
writing skills, enabling them to effectively make decisions and solve problems.”
