Seasoned Biology
Professor Joins
Clarion University–Venango
Campus Faculty
OIL CITY, PA – David Lott, Ph.D. has joined the
Clarion University–Venango Campus community as a full-time faculty member
teaching biology. Lott received his doctorate in zoology/physiology from Iowa State University and has been
teaching at the Clarion Campus since 1998. Lott proactively integrates the
latest technological advances in his teaching to facilitate student learning. He
also has conducted workshops on effective instructional techniques to teach
science to non-science majors.
“I really enjoy teaching at Venango
Campus because its size creates an atmosphere that is very conducive to
learning,” said Lott. “The students here are dedicated and hard working and the
faculty and staff are committed to helping all students succeed.”
An avid bicyclist, Lott is conducting
research in the area of exercise physiology. He also is conducting ongoing
research in the area of turtle nesting preferences, the topic on which his
doctoral research was based. He’s inspired by the broad range of students taking
classes at Venango Campus, which may include students who haven’t taken a
biology class in more than a decade, and endeavors to create a supportive
learning environment for all.
“We’re thrilled that Dr. Lott has
chosen to join our faculty on a full-time basis,” said
Dr. Christopher M. Reber, executive dean of
Venango Campus. “Outstanding faculty are the foundation for the quality
educational experience that we strive to provide and Dr. Lott is recognized by
students and colleagues alike as an excellent and caring professor with a wealth
of knowledge and enthusiasm.”
Lott has served as an advisor to the Tri-Beta
Honorary Society, the Pre-professional Committee (which helps prepare students
for post-baccalaureate degrees), and the Clarion University Health Careers Club.
He is a member of the Venango Campus Faculty Forum and is chairing the planning
committee for the campus’ upcoming strategic planning retreat.
Lott is involved in a variety of community
projects including the SAFE program to eliminate domestic violence and he serves
on the Clarion County Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Drug and Alcohol
Advisory Board. He also has coordinated science assemblies for local elementary
school children and conducted science presentations at school career days and as
part of the Mary Walter Leadership Development Series.
Clarion University–Venango Campus provides
high-quality educational programs and personalized services to help students
succeed. Students can earn an associate degree, a bachelor’s or master’s degree
in select areas, obtain a one-year certificate or participate in a variety of
professional development and personal enrichment courses. Clarion
University–Venango Campus is committed to serving the needs of the community.
