Scholarship to Honor Community Leaders Established

at Clarion University–Venango Campus

OIL CITY, PA—Trustees of the Dr. and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Charitable Trust have established an endowed scholarship at Clarion University–Venango Campus in memory of two long-time Phillips trustees, William J. McFate and Judge William E. Breene.

“My university colleagues and I are deeply grateful for the ongoing generous support of the Dr. and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Charitable Trust,” said Dr. Christopher M. Reber, executive dean of the campus, “and we are honored that they chose this way to recognize the important contributions of Mr. McFate and Judge Breene. These extraordinary men served the Phillips Trust and the entire community with distinction for many years and are an example to us all.  During their tenures as trustees and after, the Phillips Trust provided life-changing scholarship funding and support for the Venango Campus student apartment complex and other university projects.”

The new scholarship endowment benefits students entering fields of study in health-related professions who have demonstrated financial need and academic merit. It was created by the Phillips Trust with an initial grant of $200,000 and is open to additional contributions from others.

“The Trustees are happy to have a part in the success of Venango Campus and are particularly pleased to contribute to the growth of the health-related fields of study, something which was very important to Dr. Phillips,” said Phillips Trustee Robert W. McFate.  “Our hope is that this scholarship will continue to grow through the support of others and will encourage more students to pursue careers in health care. In this way, the scholarship will also help to fill an increasingly critical need for health professionals in our region and beyond.”
