Continuing Education Classes
OIL CITY, PA-
Clarion University–Venango Campus’ Division of Continuing Education offers a
variety of professional development and personal enrichment classes. Following
is a listing of programs being offered in August and September. To register for

Yoga
students will gain an understanding of the basic disciplines of Hatha yoga.
Learn postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques that energizer and
strengthen your mind and body. Come along on an inner journey and expand your
possibilities! Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or blanket.

Private Snare
Drum and Drum Set Lessons for beginning to advanced students. Arranged
lesson times. Half-hour lessons each week. Twelve lessons per quarter. Ages 10
and up.

Technical
Writing introduces technical communications, both oral and written,
emphasizing the practical applications of accurate documentation on memoranda,
instructions, proposals and reports.

Beginner’s
Knitting shows what you can do with two needles and a ball of yarn.
Knitting is fun, relaxing, and portable. Projects can be small or large, easy
or challenging. The class begins with face/dish cloths to learn casting on,
knit and purl stitches, increasing, decreasing and binding off. Materials for
the first project are included in the price of the class. By the end of the
class, you will need yarn of your choice to make a scarf.

Medical
Terminology trains students to break down and identify medical terms used in
any medical setting. You will understand and learn to correctly document the
different terms used in the medical field.

Entrepreneurship
in Small Business is a course that offers a step-by-step process for
owning your own business. Should you become an entrepreneur? Let us show you
what skills entrepreneurs need. You will learn how to develop a business plan,
identify and meet a market need, obtain financing, choose a location and set up
for business. You also will learn about marketing your business, record keeping
and accounting, and financial management.

Keyboarding
helps students master keyboarding and formatting skills using keyboarding
competencies.

Women’s Power
and Mystery helps students understand the interconnection of physiology,
psychology and spirituality of the feminine life cycle. Explore the unique
energy of female archetypes and the effect they have on women’s lives today.
Utilize the Women’s Wheel of Life to explore the ancient beliefs of cultures
that honored the power of feminine spirituality and discuss how the beliefs are
returning to life in our culture.

offers a thorough overview of the Microsoft Office software package: Word,
Excel, Internet Explorer and PowerPoint.

Sign Language
for Adults teaches students that sign language is a great and useful tool of
communication. Learn to communicate with the hearing impaired—everything from
basic words to creating sentences and phrases.

is a large vocal ensemble offering extended musical experiences for area
singers. Classes meet in Rhoades Auditorium, Venango Campus. A concert will be
held on December 7.

Basic Medical
Insurance/Coding/Billing provides students with a basic understanding of how
to complete the insurance and billing process in a medical office.

Medical Records
Management and Documentation helps students understand how to organize
medical files. Learn office communication with other medical offices. Understand
the overview of HIPAA regulations. Compare and contrast benefits of paper verses
electronic medical records. Learn appropriate documentation strategies. If you
currently work in a medical office or are seeking employment in a medical
facility, this course is a must.

Communicating in
Business explores behavioral theories and concepts that explain and predict
human interaction in the workplace. Develop writing, speaking, marketing,
interpersonal and leadership skills.

Teaching Written
Expression to At-Risk Youth is being offered, allowing teachers to earn
four hours of Act 48 credit. Youngsters at risk, behaviorally and
academically, present unique challenges in the area of teaching written
expression. This one-day workshop will attempt to explain the scope of the
problem including: nature of instructional procedures, analysis of prerequisite
skills required for written expression, specific procedures for constructing
exercises, considerations before, during, and after instruction, as well as
progress monitoring suggestions. There will be opportunities to develop specific
exercises for your own classroom as well as suggestions concerning commercially
available materials. Teachers are encouraged to bring materials they currently
use for written expression instruction.
