Julie Erb London Joins Nursing Faculty at Clarion University–Venango Campus

Julie Erb London has been named to a tenure-track faculty position in the School of Nursing and Allied Health at Clarion University–Venango Campus. Ms. London will teach in the university’s on-line bachelor of science in nursing program.

“The on-line bachelor’s degree in nursing was designed to provide current registered nurses the flexibility to advance their careers by earning a bachelor’s degree while working full-time,” said Dr. Christopher M. Reber, executive dean of the Venango Campus. “Ms. London brings a strong background both in nursing and the rapidly-growing field of on-line education.”

“On-line education actually provides much more student-teacher contact than the conventional classroom,” said Ms. London, “and much more opportunity to support the student along the way. Rather than seeing the student in class two or three times a week, I’m working with them on a daily basis. There is no back row in on-line learning. If a student doesn’t contribute, I know.

“Students not only like the fact that they can fit the classes into their own schedule,” London continued, “but that they can avoid the cost of transportation to classes. Most students in these classes are thirty or over with ten years of work experience as a registered nurse. I am especially sensitive to the needs of the adult learner.”

Ms. London earned her registered nurse diploma from Sewickley School of Nursing in Sewickley, her bachelor of science in nursing degree from Clarion University, and her master of science in nursing, with a concentration in nursing education, from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She is currently finishing a doctoral degree from the University of Arizona.

Ms. London previously served on the faculties of Community College of Beaver County, Waynesburg College in Canonsburg, and Community College of Allegheny County.

Prior to entering the field of nursing education, Ms. London was director of primary care at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning. She also worked at HealthAmerica, St. Margaret’s Hospital, and Shadyside Hospital, all in Pittsburgh.
