Kay Ensle Joins Management Team at Clarion University–Venango Campus

Long-time Oil City Library director Kay Ensle has been named assistant to the executive dean at Clarion University–Venango Campus.

“My colleagues and I are extremely pleased to add someone of Kay Ensle’s caliber to the management team at the Venango Campus. Kay is a recognized leader in the community and the region and brings to the position a wealth of skills and experience,” said Christopher M. Reber, executive dean.

“I’m looking forward to this wonderful new challenge and professional opportunity,” said Ms. Ensle. “The campus has been much more visible in the community in recent years and exciting things are happening there. It is an honor to join the Venango Campus team.”

Ms. Ensle earned both a bachelor of science in elementary education and master of science in library science from Clarion University. An Oil City native, she graduated from Oil City Area High School.

After teaching and serving as librarian in elementary schools in the Franklin Area School District, Ms. Ensle joined the staff of the Oil City Library in 1980 as assistant director, and was named director four years later. She also served as administrator and acting consultant librarian for the Oil Creek District Library Center, which serves the 14 public libraries in Clarion, Jefferson, and Venango counties.

Ms. Ensle is actively involved in many community organizations, including United Way of Venango County, First Book of Venango County, Venango County Association for the Blind, American Red Cross, Venango County Humane Society, and Zonta Club of Oil City-Franklin.

In 1984, Ms. Ensle received the Oil City Area Jaycees Distinguished Service Award. She was honored by the Clarion University Alumni Association in 1994 with the Clarion University–Venango Campus Distinguished Alumni Award, which is presented annually to one campus alumnus whose professional achievements and volunteer service have brought distinction to the honoree and to the Venango Campus.

In her new position, Ms. Ensle will play a key role in the strategic planning process to chart and support the overall growth and development of the Venango Campus. She will work with academic colleagues to develop the course schedule, manage campus academic budgets, promote faculty and staff professional development, help students address academic needs, advocate and support the development of new programs to meet regional needs, coordinate and develop grant proposals and accreditation reports, and work closely with the executive dean and other campus leaders to promote continuous quality improvement.

Clarion University-Venango Campus, located in Oil City, PA, is the oldest regional campus in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.   The campus provides high-quality educational programs and personalized services to help students succeed.  Students can begin any of Clarion University’s 90+ bachelor’s degrees at the Venango Campus, earn an associate degree, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in select areas, obtain a one-year certificate or participate in a variety of professional development and personal enrichment courses.  The campus is home to Clarion University’s School of Nursing and Allied Health and its Department of Applied Technology.  Clarion University-Venango Campus is committed to serving the needs of the community.
