Bachelor of Science
in Radiologic Sciences

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Clarion's Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences program is located at Venango Campus in Oil City and the Clarion Campus in Clarion.  The program has an academic preparation of two years (60 semester hours including general education) at Clarion University and continues with a 24-month program of clinical study
(60 semester hours) at one of four nationally JRCERT accredited hospital-based schools of Radiologic Technology.

Both Clarion University and Clarion University-Venango Campus provide students the opportunity to receive a quality education in a supportive, dynamic, and unique environment. Students have the option of completing the general education requirements of the radiologic sciences program at either campus.

Application to hospital schools of radiography typically occurs in the second semester of the sophomore year.  Students who have met all 60 credits of science and general education requirements of the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree program will be recommended as candidates for admission to affiliated hospital schools.  A student who has earned 54 of the required 60 science and general education credits of the degree may be given conditional recommendation for admission.

Admission to a clinical site is at the discretion of the staff of the clinical school.  Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences at Clarion University does not guarantee admission to a hospital-based program.

Following completion of course work at Clarion University and an affiliated clinical practice site, the student is awarded a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree from Clarion University and is eligible to sit for the national certification examination in radiography administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

After attaining the status of radiologic technologist, graduates may diversify into specialty areas of the radiologic sciences such as magnetic resonance imaging, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, ultrasonography, computed tomography, mammography, administration, education, and medical sales. Careers in some specialty areas can be attained through on-the-job training and some through additional formal schooling. Currently, Clarion University does not offer programs in specialty areas of the radiologic sciences.

RADIOLOGIC SCIENCES AT VENANGO CAMPUS

Student Life at the Venango Campus

The Venango Campus is a close-knit community of knowledgeable, resourceful, enthusiastic, and caring faculty and staff who are dedicated to helping students achieve academic and personal success. Radiologic science majors who complete their first two years of general education at Clarion-Venango benefit in several ways from the individualized attention they receive.

The small size of classes results in a low student/teacher ratio and provides students the opportunity to work closely with professors in establishing a solid academic foundation upon which to build their future clinical education.

Venango Campus Resources

Clarion-Venango radiologic science students also enjoy the full resources made available to them through the School of Nursing and Allied Health including the personalized attention of a dedicated staff that goes out of its way to assist students.

Clarion-Venango student success is further augmented by the array of services available on campus. The Learning Support Center offers free tutoring for coursework specific to the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences Program as well as assistance with study skills. Free student counseling services are also offered and are readily accessible. Support services continue to be available free of charge to radiologic science students in their junior and senior years as they complete their clinical education off campus at affiliated clinical sites.

Opportunities to Become a Leader at the Venango Campus

Diverse Clarion-Venango activities permit students a high degree of participation that leads to personal enrichment and growth. A new Venango Campus Allied Health Careers Club fosters camaraderie among radiologic science majors while providing them unique opportunities to explore the health care arena. Leadership skills that students develop as a result of campus and community involvement position them for success as future health care professionals. Actively involved students quickly stand out at the Venango Campus.

Apartment Living at Clarion University-Venango Campus

Beautiful, new student apartments enhance the Clarion-Venango radiologic science student experience. Students accepted to UPMC Northwest School of Radiologic Technology may find it convenient to continue residing in the student apartments as they complete their last two years of clinical education.

Venango Campus Scholarships
