Course Offerings
The Associate of Arts is a liberal arts degree program designed to provide students with a range of experiences. This program offers a flexible course of study. It is a great starting point for a wide variety of students including those undecided about a course of study or those who have been out of school for a long period of time. The Associate of Arts program provides a general course of study. It allows students to complete the majority of their general education requirement coursework completely online. If a student then decides to pursue a more specific course of study through Clarion University, they can apply this coursework toward other degree program requirements.
Admissions criteria
In accordance with the principles governing admission adopted by the university, seven general requirements (two optional) have been established for admission to Clarion University:
- Strength of curriculum
- High school class rank
- Grade-point average
- High school profile
- SAT or ACT test score
- Recommendations (optional)
- Essay (optional)
Most applicants will have completed 3 units of mathematics (typically algebra 1, algebra 2, and geometry), 3 units of science (preferably lab sciences such a biology and chemistry), 4 units of English, and 4 units in the social sciences (typically world cultures, history, social studies, psychology, sociology, etc). There are no foreign language requirements for applicants. However, completion of 2 or more years of a foreign language is strongly encouraged.
Most applicants will be in the top 2/5's of their class (top 40% class rank) and have a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. The average SAT score of an incoming freshmen is 978 (491 verbal, 487 math). The average ACT score of an incoming freshmen is 21.
An essay on an topic is optional.
Applicants to the university will be evaluated on these seven areas (essay and recommendations optional). Applicants must show minimal amount of education as evidenced by graduation from an approved secondary school or equivalent preparation as determined by the Division of Professional Certification.
