Research and externally funded scholarly activities are quickly becoming a larger part of the landscape of PennWest Clarion. Research can encompass field surveys in the community to wet-lab research to scholarly activity that leads to publication in a peer-reviewed journal or book. With all of these examples, the Grants Office can help you seek out funding sources, maintain compliance with federal, state and local regulations, meet reporting requirements, and keep all human and animal subjects safe in studies. The provost or his designee is the authorized university official to endorse proposals or accept funding in support a proposal on behalf of the university.

What is the grant and sponsored activity process at Clarion?

Plan Ahead and Start Small

• Look for local or state agencies to begin your research career
• Collaborate with colleagues at other institutions or disciplines
• Work with the grants officer to conduct federal searches

Develop a Proposal

• Read guidelines carefully
• Call a program officer
• Work with grants officer for form development and budgeting
• Conduct a peer review of a draft proposal

Approval and Submission

• Obtain university endorsement
• Submit proposal on or before deadline

Project Management

• Create timeline to achieve goals
• Manage budget
• Track progress

Project Close-Out

• Submit final progress report
