2009 Summer Academy: DEBATE CAMP: JULY 19 - 25, 2009

The Clarion University Debate and Honors Programs are proud to announce the 2nd Annual “Clarion University Debate Workshop.” Led by Jim Lyle, head coach of the 2009 American Debate Association Novice National Champions, the Clarion Workshop is a low-cost, one-week experience ideally suited for those debaters who are looking for an emphasis on skill development. Although debaters will receive completed affirmative and negative files at the camp, evidence production is not the emphasis of the program. Instead we aim to give debaters the foundation in terms of skills to succeed in high school policy debate. |

Although we are only in our second year as a camp, Jim has coached college debate for the past 13 years, worked at the Wake Forest Policy Project and Summer Debate Workshop for nearly a decade, and done extensive work as a researcher and author for the Wake Forest Debater’s Research Guide. Additionally, as this is the second year of the camp we anticipate growth which will allow us to divide the group into two separate labs (novice and experienced) and create a more tailored experience to better fit the needs of the students. We are once again proud to announce our partnership with Planet Debate, and will be offering yearlong “master-level” access to our students. Stay tuned for information. As we grow, we will announce additional faculty.
