Student Leader Empowerment Program

SLEP is adding online options in Spring 2013:

Make-up sessions now available in D2L!

Clarion University's Student Leader Empowerment Program (SLEP) is expanding to offer a more well-rounded training for current and potential campus leaders. This spring, Shelly Wilson will join SLEP and help students understand the ins and outs of budgets and money management.

SLEP is a series of workshops offered every semester to enhance students' basic leadership skills. There are six SLEP workshops: ethics and values, diversity awareness, group dynamics, conflict resolution, parliamentary procedure, and strategic planning and goal setting. Each session is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes long, with a short assessment at the end of each meeting. Students who maintain an average of 80% on the assessments and attend at least five of the six sessions will receive certification and a SLEP t-shirt.

SLEP is a great series for students who are interested in getting more involved on campus through Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs), campus jobs, and other leadership opportunities. The series is an excellent program for members and newly elected officers of RSOs to attend if they have not done so already. Student leadership skills are learned and reinforced in ways that can help their organizations grow and become more productive.

Students do not have to attend all of the sessions to participate in SLEP. If there is a topic that is of specific interest to a student, he or she is encouraged to come for the evening and be a part of that particular workshop. Certification will only be granted, however, to students who meet the full requirements.

The next SLEP series will start in February of the Spring 2013 Semester. The series will be offered on Tuesdays at 7pm, in 248 Gemmell. The dates for the workshops are:

February 19 - Diana Brush: Parliamentary Procedure

February 26 - Jim McGee: Goal Setting

March 5 - Rogers Laugand: Diversity Awareness

March 12 - Matt Shaffer: Conflict Management

March 26 - Myrna Kuehn: Working with Teams and Groups

April 2 -  Shelly Wilson: Fiscal Management

April 10 - Emma Barrett: Ethics and Values

Students who successfully complete the program will receive t-shirts and certificates at the Reinhard Awards Ceremony in the spring. To register for SLEP, click here and submit your name, email address, and phone number in the email window. You will receive a confirmation email in return.
