The November issue of Hand in Hand (HiH) is now available online at: http://psy1.clarion.edu/HiH/HiH1108.pdf. This issue is an outgrowth of the Undergraduate Research workgroup at Clarion and examines student/faculty research from multiple viewpoints. Susan Prezzano (AGES) served as guest editor.
Bill Barnes (biology), Laurie Occhipinti (AGES), and Susan Prezzano (AGES) begin the issue by discussing their work with the Council on Undergraduate Research and the ways that this has transformed their perceptions of what undergraduate research can and should be. Herb Luthin (English), Susan Prezzano (AGES), and Valerie Bennett (biology) describe the ways that they have attempted to integrate research into their classes, the obstacles they have faced in the process, and what they have done to address these issues. Daniel Vikartosky, Lisa Baumgartner, Luke Martin, and Kenn Staub (communication science disorders) discuss the experience of student/faculty research from the student perspective. Jeanne Slattery (psychology) suggested that student/faculty research is important for students, but also for faculty, and described her experiences.
Future issues of HiH may explore writing, classroom climate, and general education. Submissions on any topic are always welcome. Melissa Downes (English) continues to be a co-editor on this project and Suzie Boyden (biology) has joined the group. Feel free to write any of us with ideas or to send articles for consideration.
Hand in Hand is an e-newsletter published on an irregular basis by Partners in Teaching, Learning and Assessment. HiH is dedicated to recognizing good teaching, fostering excellence in teaching, and creating an environment that fosters learning among students and faculty alike. This project is supported by a Presidential Advancement grant to the Partners in Teaching, Learning and Assessment group.
