The Writing Center is a great support service for any writer who values feedback as part of the process of learning to write well. We do not "fix" or proofread papers. We do not tell writers what to do. Instead, our aim is to teach students how to improve and correct their own writing.
A Great Work/Study Opportunity for English Majors
A writing consultant's primary responsibility is to provide one-on-one tutoring to students who come to The Writing Center for assistance with writing assignments. As a writing consultant, you also provide assistance with Internet research and computer and software use and participate in peer critique assistance in first-year composition classes scheduled in The Writing Center. All staff members attend scheduled meetings and workshops to constantly sharpen their writing and tutoring skills. Writing consultants may also earn "College Reading & Learning Association Tutor Certification" as they work in the Center. Spend a year working in The Writing Center and you will see an improvement in your own writing skills.
