Students interested in applying for a position as a writing center consultant should be familiar with the job description, qualifications, and application and selection process. Summary of Position
Writing consultants provide one-on-one assistance for writers in The Writing Center. They provide assistance with Internet research and computer and software use. Consultants also participate in peer critique assistance in first-year composition classes scheduled in The Writing Center. All staff members are expected to attend scheduled meetings and workshops, and to participate in projects to inform the university of writing center services. The position includes some evening and weekend hours.
Students in all majors are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Possess excellent writing skills as demonstrated by a grade of B or better in English 111 or a writing intensive course
- Possess strong knowledge or grammar and punctuation
- Know at least one research paper format (MLA, APA, etc.)
- Know Windows XP and MS Office software
- Work with a wide range of individuals
- Work as a respectful team member
- Be reliable, punctual and able to work independently
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.9
- Be a native speaker of English
