The Clarion University Office of Finance and Administration has provided an update on the major construction projects underway at Clarion University.
Clarion Campus - Dining Hall
The Architectural design at the entrance way shows the most change with the arches dry-walled and tile and finishes being installed. The walk-in cooler has been installed along with most of the kitchen equipment. Doors are now on site and the oak trim is ready to be stained. Overall the project is coming together nicely with only a little outside work needed.
Pedestrian/Vehicular traffic and safety: One-way traffic is still in effect for the roadway between Carrier and the new dining-hall and construction equipment is still very active. Do not drive east on this roadway and do not walk in this or any other campus roadways.
Clarion Campus - Science-Technology Building
The exterior brick on the northwest face of the building was cleaned this week with window installation in this area planned to begin next week and brick installation on the northwest section is ongoing as was metal framing to support the south stair tower glass. Siding on the several roof top penthouses also began this week. Drywall installation continued on the 3rd floor and drywall taping continued on the 2nd and 3rd floor east section.
Construction of the mechanical room piping continues but slowly due to the large amount of piping and the congested area. Installation of the roof top air handlers and heat recovery units continues this week with the HVAC contractor working toward having south side air handling units operational by mid-November. Plumbing activities progress throughout the building and insulation of the installed piping and ductwork continued. The electrical contractor is installing conduit and pulling wiring.
Clarion Campus - On-Campus Residences
Final grading continued in the area of Building #4 with the area between Building #4, Ralston and Givan cut to grade this past week. The natural gas hookup to Building #4 was installed by National Fuel and will be complete early next week. Spot painting, fixture installation, and installation of the HVAC units, installation of the carpeting and vinyl clay tile continued. The painter remained ahead of the area prepared for carpet installation and plumbing fixture installation continued in both buildings.
Venango Campus - Venango Pond
The banks of the pond are starting to get greener, and the rough-in for the ramp to Rhoades, the gazebo and bridge are complete. Finish on the ramp will begin when the wall design is complete The bridge and the gazebo will require a five-week wait.
Venango Campus - Frame & Rhodes Locker Room
With a long lead time on the material, work has is momentarily halted. The Gum will be painted next week and duct will be hung in the locker rooms.
Clarion Campus - South Campus Parking Lot
The sanitary line from the Recreation Center which crosses the parking lot was relocated this week involving the installation of two new manholes and the relocation of 220 feet of underground line. The contractor pumped the Recreation Center effluent so that the Centers' ongoing operations were not interrupted. Construction of the south drainage field also continued with the setting of the drainpipes over a stone-prepared sub-base. Construction of the north drainage field will follow the south drainage field construction. The north drainage field is 25 percent larger than the south field.
