Dr. Robert Nulph, professor of mass media arts, journalism, and communication studies at Clarion University, received a Bronze Telly Award for outstanding work in the categories of government affairs and low budget videos for four videos he helped produce and direct for the repeal of Act 44 during 2007. Nulph did the work through his personal business Visual Logic Productions.
The Clarion County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) produced the videos. The videos can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/repealact44.
"This issue is so important," said Nulph, who volunteered his time, expertise, and equipment to produce the ads. "We had to do something to bring attention to this issue so that people will know that Act 44 must be repealed."
Nulph played a key role in developing the scripts, said Bradford Ehrhart, executive director of the CCEDC, offering insight into what would translate into an effective ad.
"We are very fortunate to have (Nulph's) talent and dedication at our disposal," said Ehrhart. "He really helped us to shape our ideas into something professional that will be noticed, something that will make a difference."
Actors and production staff were volunteers drawn from CCEDC staff and CCEDC board members.
Founded in 1978, the Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions. The Telly Awards annually showcases the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world. The Telly Awards is a widely known and highly respected national and international competition and receives over 14,000 entries annually from all 50 states and many foreign countries.
A prestigious judging panel of over 40 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly, the top honor, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. Judges evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work - entries do not compete against each other - rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10% of entries are chosen as winners of a Silver Telly, the highest honor. Historically, the Bronze Telly Award winners have represented about 18 to 25 percent of entrants.
Clarion University is the high-achieving, nationally recognized, comprehensive university that delivers a personal and challenging academic experience.
