SOCIETY FOR ADVANCEMENT OF MANAGEMENT
CLARION UNIVERSITY CHAPTER (SINCE 1989)
Clarion University Chapter of the Society for Advancement Receives National Outstanding Chapter, Student, and Advisor Awards
The Clarion University Chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) normally attends the SAM International Conference held each year. The conference consists of several hundred students, practicing managers, and faculty from across the U.S. along with representation from various foreign countries. The Clarion University Chapter typically tries to take eight to ten students who participate in three to four days of workshops, seminars, competitions, and presentations related to the practice of management.
SAM National Outstanding Chapter Award
This is a highly competitive national award honoring the chapter that best demonstrates a commitment to management practice, planning, organizational development, programming, outreach, budgeting, and membership activities. The top three chapters based on chapter size receive a plaque and are recognized at the conference ceremonies for their performance.
SAM National Outstanding Student Award
National awards are selected from a group of regional award winners. This award, given to only fifteen students nationally, is selected from all U.S. and international chapters. It is based on a demonstrated commitment to management excellence, service to the Society, chapter performance, and nomination by SAM campus chapter advisor.
SAM Regional Outstanding Student Awards
Regional awards are based on the above criteria and are given on a smaller geographic basis.
SAM National Outstanding Advisor Award
This award is based on nominations submitted by students representing individual chapters.
The Clarion Chapter of SAM has been in existence since 1989. Since that time, the organization has participated in many international conferences across the United States and a host of regional and local meetings. The Clarion Chapter typically consists of twenty-five to thirty students majoring in management and/or industrial relations. The Clarion Chapter frequently incorporates the use of practicing managers and company visits to address current management issues. The organization promotes ethical and responsible management practices and emphasizes the importance of community service and volunteerism to its members. The organization has been in existence since the 1920's and was founded by Frederick Taylor considered the father of Scientific Management.
