Library Media Associate

For the 2011-2012 school year, Philadelphia-Montgomery Christian Academy is seeking an individual interested in obtaining a full-time position while learning about the rewarding occupation of School Library Media Specialist through on-the-job training. This position is an exciting opportunity for a student of School Library Media Science.

Philadelphia-Montgomery Christian Academy is an independent, college preparatory, co-educational day school serving children from PreK through 12th grade in suburban Philadelphia. PMCA subscribes to the Reformed system of doctrine as contained in the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Confession of Faith (Philadelphia Baptist Confession). Founded in 1943 the school holds current accreditation through Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, is certified as a non-profit organization in Pennsylvania, and is directed by an independent, self-perpetuating Board of Trustees.

PMCA seeks an individual who

  • professes a adherence to a Biblical Christian world and life view

  • possesses the ability to collaborate with colleagues
  • has organizational and technological skills
  • has an awareness of 21st Century Literacy Skills
  • is able to communicate positively with students in grades PreK-12
  • has a awareness of current library issues and practices
  • has an understanding of databases, citations and circulation programs

Responsibilities will include:

  • willingness to be mentored by an active Library Media Specialist
  • teaching 21st century Literacy Skills to a middle school class
  • willingness to teach Library Skills classes when needed and for experience
  • willingness to serve in an aide position for the Library Media Specialist
  • covering study halls in the Library Media Center
  • learning and using skills related to all aspects of the job
  • commitment to continue in Library and Information Science degree program currently enrolled in

PMCA offers competitive hourly rate and applicable benefits with compensation to be determined based upon educational background and experience.
