|Congratulations to the Class of 2014 – and our newest alumni! Thank you for making us proud. Olivia Kohler (center), celebrates receiving her degree in communication. She is pictured with friends and fellow 2014 graduates Kaitlyn Jones on her right and Kelsey Waros on her left, who also received communication degrees.
Nearly 1,030 Clarion University students donned the traditional caps and gowns for commencement ceremonies May 10.
Guido M. Pichini, chairman of the Board of Governors for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, addressed graduates. Pichini is president of WSK & Associates and its related companies of Wyomissing. A 1974 Kutztown University graduate, he is the first PASSHE university alumnus to chair the board that oversees the state system.
Pichini shared how college prepared him for his career, even though his degree is in education and his career has been in law enforcement and security.
“I talk about my experiences only to illustrate that your life sometimes takes strange turns, and along the way you use your educational training and knowledge to adapt and to grow,” Pichini said. “I used all of my education, not to prepare lesson plans, but to prepare business plans and sales presentations.”
Sara Dickson (’14), Saegertown, was student speaker for the Clarion ceremonies. Dickson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in political science and a concentration in pre-law. Dickson enjoyed many accomplishments in her four years at Clarion University. She was a member of the Honors Program who served as Student Senate president, was a member of the board of directors for the Clarion Student Association and was one of three student members appointed by Gov. Tom Corbett to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors. Dickson will continue her education this fall at the Quinnipiac University School of Law, where she will pursue a concentration in health law.
Clarion University is the high-achieving, nationally recognized, comprehensive university that delivers a personal and challenging academic experience.
