The demand for Science teachers is high and Clarion University has a good reputation for preparing future science teachers to succeed.
Graduates of Middle Level Education: Science Concentration who complete all program requirements are eligible to apply for PA Instructional I Teaching Certification. This certification enables graduates to teach all subjects in an elementary classroom grades 4-6, as well as General Science in Grades 4-8 in public, private, parochial, magnet, charter and online school settings.
Clarion University Teacher Education faculty continually update their coursework and field experience assignments to reflect the changing school environments as well as Pennsylvania and National Academic Standards for learning and teaching. Education Department faculty are all certified teachers and average more than 15 years of K-12 classroom experience.
While a few courses in undergraduate education programs may be offered online, the majority of the program is on campus in highly interactive face-to-face instruction. Field experiences in schools are integrated during all four years of the program, with larger blocks of time spent in grades 4-8 school settings during the junior and senior years. More information about field experiences, required certification tests and clearances as well as student teaching may be found by visiting the Office of Field Services.
The Middle Level Certification program is nationally recognized by the Association for Middle Level Educators (AMLE) and nationally accredited National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
