Seven individuals, including President Joseph Grunenwald and Florence Shutsy-Reynolds of the WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilot), were recognized with awards when Clarion University concluded its observance of Equity Week at its 15th Annual Equity Dinner and Awards Ceremony. Clarion University President Joseph Grunenwald received the Director's Award from the Robert D. Lynch Student Leadership Development Institute (SLDI) of the Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education. The award was presented at the organization's 23rd annual conference held in Altoona.

Clarion University Theatre auditions for "Rent"
Clarion University Theatre will be holding auditions for the hit Broadway musical, RENT on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 and 2. The musical by Jonathan Larson, based on the opera "La Boheme," follows a group of friends through a year in the East Village of New York during the late 1980s, through their troubles and triumphs.

Industrial Technology Program at Clarion University-Venango Campus earns national accreditation
Clarion University's Industrial Technology program, offered through its Department of Applied Technology that is located at Clarion University-Venango Campus, was awarded national accreditation by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) on November 10, 2009, at the ATMAE Board of Accreditation hearing in Louisville, Kentucky. ATMAE is recognized as the premier professional association for the accreditation of industrial technology programs in colleges, universities, and technical institutes.

"Evening Peace" premiere to open scholarship campaign
Clarion University and the Clarion University Foundation Inc. will kick-off a scholarship fundraising campaign to benefit the Honors Program with the premiere of "Evening Peace," an original composition by faculty member Dr. P. Brent Register, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m., in Walter Hart Chapel. The evening will also include an exhibition in the University Art Gallery and celebratory reception in Carlson Library.

Clarion University opened the 2009 Fall semester on Aug. 31 at 8 a.m. The semester will continue through commencement on Dec. 19. Vacation dates are: Sept. 7, Labor Day; mid-semester break, Oct. 2; and Thanksgiving, Nov. 25-29.
