The William D. Chamberlain
Center for Science and Mathematics Education
Resources
The Center contains samples of most modern science and mathematics curricula, including complete sets of texts and materials for the elementary, middle, junior high school and senior high school levels. It also houses valuable teacher resources from barometers and base 10 blocks to various educational technologies. These are loaned out gratuitously to any teacher or student teacher. Besides this, reference guides, journals, activity worksheets and books are freely available for elementary, middle, junior high and senior high school levels in all the science and mathematics content areas. Books of teacher education, process and science content are stored here too.
The Clarion University Center for Science and Mathematics Education hosts various interesting programs for students as well as teachers. Super Saturday Science is held two to three times a semester- it has a whole set of fun science activities with a theme, for children from grades K-6. Teachers are given the opportunity to learn as well, at different workshops organized by the Center. The Center also functions as a leadership center and a site for conferences and meetings of educators interested in science and mathematics education. Pierce Science Center contains laboratories in biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. A complete planetarium with a 100-seat capacity is attached. The building also contains an animal-aquarium room and a free-standing greenhouse.
The undergraduate and graduate science education programs also makes extensive use of McKeever Environmental Learning Center at Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania, and University of Pittsburgh's Pymatuning Laboratory at Lineville, Pennsylvania.
