Dr. Bruce Smith

    Dr. Smith, an associate professor in the Department of Education, instructs a variety of science education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as directs the Center for Science Education.  His educational background includes a B.S. in Forest Science from Penn State University, a B.S. in Secondary Education from Edinboro University with certificates in Biology and General Science, a M.Ed. in Science Education from Clarion University and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State University.  Dr. Smith has taught students from Kindergarten through High School.

    Dr. Smith's specific area of interest in science education focuses on the affective domain and its influence on teaching and learning.  Outside the classroom Dr. Smith is an avid photographer, hiker and rebuilder of little British sports cars.
 
Dr. Susan Courson

    Dr. Courson, an assistant professor in the Department of Education, instructs a variety of courses in secondary science education at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as supervising secondary science student teachers. Her educational background includes a B.S. in Biology from Indiana University, a Master of Education in Science Education from Clarion University, and a Ph. D. in Curriculum and Instruction from The Pennsylvania State University. She holds PA teaching certifications in Biology and General Science and has taught at the junior high and high school levels.

    Dr. Courson's interests are in the area of preservice and inservice teacher development and learning, science curriculum development, and the use of technologies to support science learning. Her outside interests include photography, gardening, travel, and literature.

Mrs. Jackie Manno

Jackie Manno, an instructor in the Department of Education, leads courses in the Teaching of Elementary Science and Teaching of Elementary Mathmatics. Her educational background includes a B.S. in Elementary Education from Penn State University and a M.Ed. in Science Education from Clarion University. She is currently a Doctoral candidate at The Pennsylvania State University. Ms. Manno has taught elementary education in the Department of Defense schools in Baumholder, Germany and also at Prince George County Schools, Maryland. Mrs. Manno's interests are in elementary science teacher preparation and the effectiveness of Professional Development Schools.
