Who Might Want to Minor in Economics?

The Minor is designed to fill the needs of students in a number of majors.  Economics is a natural complement to other social sciences, and can serve as a field of application for majors such as mathematics or computers.  While economics majors are available in the College of Business Administration (BSBA) and the College of Arts and Sciences (BA), they require a student who wishes to study economics as a secondary field to take a double major.  Students outside those two colleges must take a dual degree, requiring an extra 30 credits.

The minor, on the other hand, provides an organized program of study for any student who wishes to complement their major, but without completing all requirements for an economics major.  Credits toward the Economics Minor do not count in the "25%" rule for business courses taken by students outside the College of Business Administration, so they may be taken regardless of the number of credits in business courses earned by a student pursuing the minor.

How does the Economics Minor Compare to the Other Programs in Economics?

Courses in the minor include the same introductory and intermediate theory courses that form the core of both economics degrees now offered at Clarion, as well as degrees at most other schools.  The other upper division courses permit the student to apply theory in subject areas that complement the student's field of study.  If a student minoring in economics wishes to pursue a B.A. degree or a B.S.B.A. (economics major) degree, no credits will be lost in the transition.
