Logon process for a personally-owned Windows XP laptop connecting to the wireless network
These instructions are written for Windows XP systems in which Windows controls your wireless network card. If you are using another Windows Operating System or your wireless card is managed by another company’s software these instructions should serve as a guide. You must have completed the Windows XP configuration instructions and you must be within range of the “cu-wifi-secure” (Clarion campus) or "ven-wifi-secure" (Venango campus) wireless network for this login procedure to succeed. If you have not configured your computer for access to the “cu-wifi-secure" (Clarion campus) or the "ven-wifi-secure" (Venango campus) wireless network please complete these instructions first.
A two-part logon is required to grant your computer with full network access.
In the first part, the Initial Logon Procedure allows your computer to connect to the wireless network. Once the initial logon procedure has been successfully completed your computer will automatically perform this logon for you in the future unless you change your Clarion University password, reinstall the operating system on your computer, or if you acquire a new computer. For example, if your password has been changed you will be prompted to enter your new password.
In the second part, the Standard Logon Procedure defined in this document will have to be performed each time you want to access the "cu-wifi-secure" (Clarion campus) or "ven-wifi-secure" (Venango campus) wireless network.
Initial Login Procedure
This procedure will only have to be performed under the following conditions:
- the first time you connect your computer to the "cu-wifi-secure" (Clarion campus) or "ven-wifi-secure" (Venango campus) wireless network;
- any time you change your password;
- if you have to reinstall the operating system on your computer;
- if you acquire a new computer;
If you have successfully completed this procedure before and your computer is already connected to the “cu-wifi-secure" or "ven-wifi-secure" wireless network please proceed to the Standard Login Procedure.
Provided that you have properly configured your computer and you are within range of the “cu-wifi-secure” or "ven-wifi-secure" wireless network your computer should now display the message that the wireless network is available. Click on this message to open the “Enter Credentials” window.
The Enter Credentials; window should now be displayed.
- Enter your user name and password in the provided fields.
- In the “Logon domain:” field enter “CLARION” with out the quotes
- Click the “OK” button to complete the first login procedure.
Provided you entered a valid set of credentials you should see a message stating that you computer has connected to the “cu-wifi-secure” (Clarion campus) or "ven-wifi-secure" (Venango campus) wireless network.
This completes the initial logon to the “cu-wifi-secure” (Clarion campus) or "ven-wifi-secure" (Venango campus) network. These credentials will be stored in the registry of your computer and will automatically be used the next time you connect to the “cu-wifi-secure” wireless network.
The Standard Logon Procedure
This logon procedure will have to be performed each time you connect to the “cu-wifi-secure” (Clarion campus) or "ven-wifi-secure" (Venango campus) wireless network. This logon also provides you with access to the Internet.
Open a web browser. If a home page has not been set for your web browser, enter a URL such as www.clarion.edu in the address bar and press the “Enter” key.
- Please enter your Clarion University e-mail username and password in the proper fields. Do NOT include @clarion.edu in your username.
- Click the ‘LOGIN’ button to start the login process.
- Once you have been authenticated your web browser may display the following security alert stating that you are leaving a secure web site. Please click ‘Yes’ to continue.
If you login was successful Internet Explorer will now display the following web page. This web page contains your login information and provides you with a logout button. You should keep this page open and return to it when you are ready to logout of the cu-wifi-secure wireless network. To logout click on the ‘Logout’ button near the bottom of the page.
Once the previous web page has been displayed Internet Explorer will open a new Internet Explorer window and will display the www.clarion.edu web page. You now have access to the Clarion Network and to the Internet. Please remember to logout when you are done using the wireless network. Return to the Logon Page and click on the ‘Logout’ button near the bottom of the page.
