Hello! My name is Peggy Apple and I’ve had a passion for Early Childhood Education for over 30 years. I began my career as a Head Start teacher assistant, taught young children for several years, served as the director for an NAEYC accredited program with 106 children from infants to five-year-olds and have held leadership positions at college & universities and in professional organizations at the national, state & local level.
During my career, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in early childhood and kindergarten at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. After teaching young children in Indianapolis, I moved to San Antonio where I lived for 18 years. During this time I earned my Master’s at Bank Street College of Education by participating in a summer and distance education program focused on Early Childhood leadership and administration while teaching kindergarten. I then served as a faculty member at San Antonio College (a community college) in the Early Childhood Program.
I returned to Indianapolis and completed my Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Educational Policy Studies from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. During this time I taught early childhood undergraduate and graduate courses coordinating & supervising student cohorts at Indiana University – Bloomington. Before my arrival in Clarion in 2010, I held a joint position with Ivy Tech Community College and the Indiana University School of Education at Indianapolis. In this position I was responsible for the start-up and growth of the community college Education Program, articulation agreements, student transfer support programs, and teaching at both institutions.
I enjoy traveling, cooking, and taking our Lhasa Apso mix (she came to use from the Humane Society) for walks. I live with my partner of eighteen years, Karen Whitney, President of Clarion University of Pennsylvania and first dog Clare.
