Hello!  My name is Peggy Apple and I’ve had a passion for Early Childhood Education for over 30 years. I began my career as a Head Start teacher assistant, taught young children for several years, served as the director for an NAEYC accredited program with 106 children from infants to five-year-olds and have held leadership positions at college & universities and in professional organizations at the national, state & local level.

During my career, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in early childhood and kindergarten at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.  After teaching young childrenin Indianapolis, I moved to San Antonio where I lived for 18 years.  During this time I earned my Master’s at Bank Street College of Education by participating in a summer and distance education program focused on Early Childhood leadership and administration while teaching kindergarten. Dr LouAnn Bonnett, Coordinator

Hello, My name is Lou Ann Bonnett. Ensuring quality early care and learning experiences has been a passion of mine since I was in high school - many, many years ago.  While I have taught nursery school, served as a Special Needs Coordinator for Head Start, worked in early learning centers, directed early childhood programs, and served as a national trainer for early intervention providers, the majority of my professional experience has been as a developmental specialist, working home-based with infants and toddlers who were born with disabilities or had developmental delays and their families.

My teaching certifications in elementary education, special education and early childhood education were earned at Slippery Rocky State College (bachelor degree) and Slippery Rock University (Master of Education degree). After working 10 years as the Director/Developmental Specialist for the early intervention program in Butler, PA, I moved to Colorado to earn my Doctorate degree in educational psychology with a concentration in child and family studies read more

Dr Jocelynn Smrekar
110 Stevens

Hi, My name is Jocelynn Smrekar. I became interested in early childhood education when my own children were young, circumstances I suspect that I share with many other early childhood educators.

I attended Clarion State College (now Clarion University) and began my teaching career as a high school Spanish teacher. After four years of teaching, I began my own family and was fortunate in being able to stay home and enjoy my babies for the next few years.   When they began school, I took a job as a Children and Youth caseworker, where I became known as the early childhood “specialist.”

After 2 and ½ years I decided to go back to college for my Masters degree at Penn State University in Comprehensive Bilingual Early Childhood Education. The Masters degree led me to pursue a Ph.D. at PSU in Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Child Development and Family Studies. read more
