Department of Justice, Law, Technology and Liberal Arts
The mission of the Department JLTLA incorporates three vital components: to provide a quality liberal education experience to stimulate the intellectual development of all university students; to provide a breadth and depth of knowledge and skills appropriate for the majors and minors in the numerous degree programs within the college; and, to improve the quality of life for society through research, service to the campus and surrounding communities, and programming to address the cultural and intellectual needs of the region.
Launched in 2003 in response to a critical need for specialized training in the region and beyond, the Applied Technology programs utilize a creative partnership approach designed to prepare students for a wide range of careers and eventual leadership positions. Under a unique partnership model, students complete general education and business courses at Venango College and the technical component of the degree through licensed, certified, accredited, and/or otherwise approved technical education providers. Graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science degree from Clarion University.
Bachelor of Applied Science in Technology Leadership
The Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a major in Technology Leadership prepares industrial technology practitioners at the professional level by building on their technical knowledge base obtained at the associate degree level. Coursework for the degree-completion program is offered completely online allowing working professionals to achieve academic goals while also meeting family and work demands.
The Associate of Arts is a liberal arts degree program designed to provide students with a range of experiences. This program offers a flexible course of study. It is a great starting point for a wide variety of students including those undecided about a course of study or those who have been out of school for a long period of time. The Associate of Arts degree program provides a general course of study. It allows students to complete the majority of their general education coursework in the classroom or completely online. If a student decides to pursue a Clarion University bachelor's degree, they can apply this coursework toward those degree program requirements. They can attend classes on campus or continue their studies online and achieve a smooth transition into the online bachelor of science in liberal studies degree program that can be completed online.
The Associate of Science in Business Administration degree is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in business, industry, and government in such departments as sales, marketing, finance, and administration, among others.
This program provides a launching point into a bachelor of science in business administration degree in Management, Economics, Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Real Estate, Finance, or International Business at the Clarion campus.
Venango College's criminal justice degree program provides a solid, broad-based education in all five areas that comprise criminal justice education, including policing, juvenile justice, criminology, law adjudication, and corrections. The Associate of Science in Criminal Justice prepares students solidly to work in these field areas. This program can now be completed in a face-to-face classroom environment or completely online.
Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies
The Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies Program is designed to provide for the education of paralegals. A legal assistant or paralegal is a person qualified by education, training, or work experience, who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency, or other entity and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a lawyer is responsible. A paralegal may not practice law.
The Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies degree program at Venango College can help you earn the degree while exploring a range of academic skills and disciplines, creating your own major in an area of interest you enjoy. You will learn through a blended program of traditional classroom instruction and online courses that offers the best of both worlds to ensure a high quality, personalized educational experience and maximum schedule flexibility.
The program is approved by the American Bar Association and is the only such program in Pennsylvania. This program puts Clarion University at the forefront of a growing field.
Graduates of the Court and Community Services program will have a strong understanding of the rehabilitation process and its interaction with the court system. They will work in organizations such as victim and witness assistance programs, protection from abuse programs, adoption services, child abuse agencies such as Children and Youth, foster care agencies, and work release agencies, among others.
This degree program is designed for students who are interested in the growing human services fields that work closely with the court system. This unique academic option combines a traditional rehabilitative science program with the paralegal or criminal justice education necessary to bridge the gap between the courts and social services.
