What is DST all about:

In July 2005 the U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005  was passed by the U.S. Congress to extend Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the U.S. by approximately four weeks. Beginning in 2007, DST started three weeks earlier and ended one week later, resulting in a new DST period that is four weeks longer than previously observed.

Daylight Savings Time (DST) Changes:

DST Starts:

DST Ends:

Second Sunday in March

First Sunday of November

How does this affect me:

The DST change will impact computer operating systems (i.e. Windows and Mac OS) as well as applications that rely on date/time functionality.

What do I need to do:

Computing Services will be updating university systems running Windows XP and Mac OS X operating systems to automatically adjust to the new DST change.  However, older versions of Windows and Macintosh computers will require a manual update along with users of Personal Data Assistants (PDAs) - see below for instructions.

Manual DST Change Required: (Campus systems only)

If you are using a computer with one of the below operating systems you will need to follow the instructions included in the "How to apply the DST update" column.  If you not sure what operating system version you are using select "Operating System Identification" for assistance.
