Jason Strohm, former owner of a local web design firm, has joined Clarion University’s Department of University Relations as a web designer/developer.
The web designer/developer will work closely with the various departments providing assistance with web pages, insuring corporate branding, page content, and university guidelines are met and managed within each department. He will also be providing training for individual departments while working closely with the marketing efforts of University Relations.
“Jason brings experience as a web designer from his work with his own design firm that will help us with the launch of a new university web site and content management system,” said Ron Wilshire, assistant vice president for university relations. “We have developed a brand marketing program that is going to include new designs for both the web and printed publications. Jason will help support both of these initiatives, along with David Love, assistant director of marketing.”
Strohm, originally from Roseville and a Clarion-Limestone High School graduate, returns to his alma mater, Clarion University, where he received undergraduate and graduate degrees.
“I came to Clarion as a biology major, but my talents are in art,” said Strohm. “I switched to art concentrating on drawing. When the art department opened up the graphic design degree program, I realized it was a natural fit.”
Graduating in 2001 with a BFA degree in art, Strohm taught art and design in the Entertainment Business Production program at DuBois Business College for 2 1/2 years, and worked as a graphic designer for DeMans Team Sport in Brookville, before deciding to return to Clarion. He earned his graduate degree in communication in 2005.
While in graduate school Strohm taught online art courses for the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He continued this teaching through the end of 2006.
Strohm started and operated his own business Strohm Graphics in Corsica from 2002-2008. He designed websites, logos, and promotional materials for print and digital medias; developed corporate identity and branding campaigns for local businesses, and managed the daily operations of the company.
“I learned a lot about marketing other companies running my own business, but I was looking for an opportunity to use my skills in an educational setting,” said Strohm about seeking the Clarion University position. “University Relations will grow and become more important to the university through branding efforts. The focus on web sites as a primary source for marketing information is growing and I am confident that I can provide the services needed to ensure Clarion University will be able to place more of the focus of its marketing and branding materials into its web site.”
Strohm will work closely with academic and administrative departments, admissions, and Venango Campus on implementing and refining the appearance of the Clarion web site. He will also complement the publication design services of PAGES, University Relation’s Printing and Graphic Express Services. One of the current summer projects for Strohm is the web site content management system, which will allow authorized individuals to easily update individual web pages and Strohm will also offer continued training for employees.
Clarion University departments seeking help with web design may contact Strohm in 232 Ralston Hall, telephone (814) 393-2622, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Strohm and his wife, Janine, have been married for 10 years. They reside in Corsica with their daughters, Athia, 6, and Maia, 2.
