The Center for Leadership and Involvement (CLI) encourages students from all areas of the University to engage in service activities that fill community needs while allowing students to pursue their personal and professional interests. The CLI hosts several service opportunities, and is always willing to help community organizations connect with University volunteers.
Civic Engagement Scholars
There will be three new civic engagement scholarship opportunities in the 2014-15 academic year. Civic Engagement Scholars are placed at a site in the community based on their personal skills and talents matching with specific community needs. Applications will be accepted in the Center for Leadership and Involvement through August 25, and interviews will be helped September 2-5. Scholarship winners will be amounted September 8.
Civic Engagement Scholars work 12-15 hours per week serving local communities. Past scholars have worked with education, care for the elderly, community development, public libraries, and other programs. The scholarship covers full in-state tuition for the academic year. Interested students should read the guidelines and application packet on the right side of this page.
Clarion University Community Service Day
The next Community Service Day will be on Saturday, October 4, 2014! This spring, volunteers can check in from 9:00-9:30 am in the Gemmell Food Court. Students will depart for their service sites at 9:45 and work until 1:00 pm.
Registration for this event will occur on CU Connect.
Have you participated in Service Day before? Would you like to get a little more involved this year? The Emerging Leaders are looking for students interested in taking on leadership roles with this program. Team leaders work a few extra hours before Service Day occurs, and are generally responsible for making sure everything is set up for their team at their site. The work directly with the agencies and site supervisors to learn about the services provided by the agency and the work being completed with the program. Students interested in team leader positions can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Together We CAN Fight Hunger
Together We CAN will happen again this spring. Last year, RSOs collected over a half ton of food for local pantries. CAN we do it again? You know it! Watch this page for more information on this spring's food collection challenge.
Does your organization have volunteer opportunities for CU students?
Please send contact and registration information with a description of your project, program, or other opportunity to Kelly Ryan (email@example.com).
