Individuals may obtain Pennsylvania Library Science K-12 Certification while enrolled in the MSLS program. Clarion University and the department are fully accredited by the American Library Association, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the Middle Statees Commission on Higher Education. Its programs are also approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Individuals may pursue this certification at Clarion, Harrisburg, or Philadelphia. Requirements fjor certification may vary based on an individual's previous certification and degrees.
Individuals who wish to study to become a school librarian have two paths to obtain this certification.
The first path is for individuals who already hold a valid teaching certificate. Those individuals simply follow the required 36-hour array of graduate courses on their checksheet.

The second path is for individuals without a prior teaching certificate. Those individuals must have their transcripts analyzed to identify needed coursework required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Initial certification also requires a full semester of student teaching. Clarion location information - Provides a face-to-face environment for those individuals who wish to complete their programs on either a full-time or part-time basis.
Harrisburg location information - Classes are offered at the Dixon University Center and provides a face-to-face environment for those individuals who wish to complete their programs on a part-time basis. You may begin taking classes during any semester.
Philadelphia location information - Classes are offered at both the Philadelphia Free Library and at the Cheney University Urban Education Site and provides a face-to-face environment for those individuals who wish to complete their programs on a part-time basis. You may begin taking classes during any semester.
