Steel City StompersClarion University–Venango Campus will host dance lessons and performances by Pittsburgh-based performers The Steel Town Stompers and The Rick Matt Project on Friday, April 29, in the Robert W. Rhoades Center gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public. The event, originally to be held in February, was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The East Coast Swing, a user-friendly, quickly learnable style of Swing, will be taught from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. followed by an all-out Swing Dance. The Steel City Stompers will also perform the Lindy Hop, a high-energy dance based on the Charleston that was named in honor of the historic transatlantic solo flight of Charles Lindbergh in the 1920s.

The Steel Town Stompers are a Lindy Hop Performance Troupe that came together three years ago because of their love of dance and their wish to share this joyful and infectious swing dance with others. They have performed at both private and public events, including the 2010 PittStop Lindy Hop exchange weekend, "Dancing with the Teachers" and "Dancing with the Docs" benefits, "Sugar Free Swing" at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, Treesdale Country Club and Pittsburgh's Swing City Swing Dance.

Performing with the Stompers is Rick Matt, one of the most sought-after saxophonists in the Pittsburgh area. A freelance solo performer, Matt has also toured and performed with legendary artists such as Maynard Ferguson, Tony Bennett and Johnny Mathis and with the long-running Broadway Show Smokey Joe's Café.
