Clarion County Literacy Council

Clarion County Literacy Council is a non-profit educational agency that provides one to one tutoring at no cost to the adult learner. Adults or out of school young adults can improve their lives by addressing educational needs.

The Literacy Council offers a flexible plan for each student. If the need is adult basic education we begin with instruction in reading, writing, and math. Many of our learners need to obtain the GED (high school equivalency diploma). CCLC does prescreening for the GED and follows this with appropriate preparation for the five sections of the GED exam: Language Arts and Writing, Social Studies, Science, and Math. There are a number of residents in Clarion County who may want to improve English language skills. If this is the goal, we provide an ESL tutor who can help in the areas of conversational English, reading and writing.

CCLC and Clarion University collaborate to provide student tutors through the Literacy Corps Program. Each year 30 students (15 each semester) who enroll in the ED 414 Literacy Training class come the Literacy Council and tutor. Students gain experience in teaching and our adult learners consistently make excellence progress toward their educational goals.
