Students must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA in order to apply for Philadelphia, out-of-state or international student teaching placements.
Full semester student teaching in the Philadelphia School District is available. Interested students need to contact the Office of Field Services for more information and NO LATER THAN the beginning of the semester prior to their student teaching semester. There are options for student teachers to receive funds during this student teaching experience if they are willing to be assigned to targeted schools in the Philadelphia School District. Money is also connected to this experience if the student has completed the Urban Seminar Experience prior to the student teaching semester.
Please complete those forms below and return them to the Office of Field Services with your completed "Intent to Student Teach Outside PA" form (also below).
Intent to Student Teach Outside PA Form - Please print out, complete and return this form to the Office of Field Services as soon as you determine that you do want to student teach the second half of your semester outside PA. Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Student Teaching Agreement.
Clarion students may now student teach during the second half of the semester in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, WITHOUT having to pay extra fees. A recently signed agreement with the Broward Count Public School District, based in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, provides the opportunity to student teach in their Nova Group of schools. This group of schools includes 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school, all on the same campus and located next to the campus of Nova Southeastern University. Here are the basics:

Extra costs for students include travel, room and board.

Placement begins before the beginning of the 10th week of each semester and lasts for a minimum of 6 weeks.

To identify interest in being placed there, please complete the "Intent to Student Teach Outside PA Form" above and return it to 127 Stevens Hall.

Interest forms for Florida placements are due in 127 Stevens Hall by the end of the fourth week of the semester BEFORE the students teaching semester. The earlier the interest form is received, the better chance the student has to receive the Florida placement.
Student Teaching →Out-of-State Placement or International Placement
The Pennsylvania Department of Education does permit students to complete one of their two student teaching placements outside of Pennsylvania and still receive the state teacher certification. In order to do this, student teachers must successfully complete the first eight-week placement in Pennsylvania in order to complete the second placement either out-of-state or internationally. Application packets for these options must be obtained from the Office of Field Services well in advance of the planned experience.
Clarion University works with the University of Northern Iowa for out-of-state and international student teaching:

The UNI fee, as of June 14, 2006, is $1,500. A non-refundable check made payable to the "University of Northern Iowa" for $750 must be submitted with all application forms through the Office of Field Services. The remaining fee of $750 is payable to the University of Northern Iowa when the placement has been secured.
Applications MUST be received in the Office of Field Services by the dates listed below for the UNI placements.
University of Northern Iowa applications are due:
> September 15 for spring placements.
> January 25 for the fall placements.
If you want to student teach in another state or in another country, you must:
- Contact the Associate Dean/Director of Field Services at 814-393-2144 to discuss this option.
- Obtain an out-of-state student teaching application packet in the Office of Field Services, 127 Stevens Hall.
- Complete all required paperwork and return it to the Office of Field Services, 127 Stevens Hall, by the scheduled due date.
- Communicate directly with the appropriate agency to establish contact and obtain related information.
