Placement Exam

The Foreign Language Placement Exam

You must take the Foreign Language Placement Exam (FLPE) if you have declared any of the following majors:

•  Art (B.A.)
•  Biology (B.A.)
•  English
•  History
•  Humanities
•  International Business
•  Philosophy
•  Social Sciences
•  Sociology (B.A.)
•  Sociology/Psychology (B.A.)
•  Speech Communications (B.A.)
•  Theater (B.A.)

If you are undecided , we strongly advise that you also take the FLPE, since you may end up declaring a major that has a language requirement.

If you have declared a major that is not in the above list, we encourage you to take the FLPE, especially if you are enrolled in the college of Business or plan to major in elementary education, a field where there is a growing demand for teachers who can provide language instruction to children.

Your performance on the Foreign Language Placement Exam will not result in the granting of credits for foreign language classes taught at Clarion University. It simply indicates for what class you should register when you start taking a foreign language at Clarion University.

You can take the placement exam online by following the directions outlined here.

  1. Go to: http://webcape.byuhtrsc.org

  2. On drop-down menu, select Clarion University and click 'go'

  3. Enter the following password: eagles1

  5. For ID number, enter the last 4 digits of your CU ID number
