The mission of the College of Arts and Sciences is to provide our majors with a breadth and depth of knowledge within and across disciplines, to offer students across the university a quality general education, to provide education majors with the content knowledge they need, and to help all students become well-rounded individuals who will contribute positively to their communities.

The College of Arts and Sciences supports dedicated faculty who are committed to quality teaching that is enriched by scholarship.  The college provides a supportive atmosphere for student learning and engagement and fosters respectful relationships among students, faculty and staff.  Interdisciplinary collaboration and collegiality within the College and with other colleges are encouraged.

The faculty and staff of the college serve to help our students discover and reach their potential.  We encourage students to discover, learn, and explore in and out of the classroom, to observe and to be actively involved in scholarly activities in their discipline and to develop skills that will enhance their personal and professional lives.

The values of the college include encouraging creative and innovative teaching, fostering a work ethic, creating an atmosphere of mutual respect with students and one another, developing students' potential, and helping them become good citizens.  We possess the desire to open the minds and hearts of our students to intellectual pursuits and to service in the region and the global community.
