The Clarion University Foundation, Inc. is committed to creating a student Culture of Giving to instill a spirit of philanthropic responsibility among Clarion University students that will last a lifetime.
In the spring of 2009, Clarion University's social fraternities and sororities took a leadership role in the Culture of Giving campaign by making a pledge of $5,000 to create the S.P.I.R.I.T. Scholarship. S.P.I.R.I.T. stands for 'Students Producing Innovative Recognition for Incoming Students of Tomorrow'. Once $25,000 is reached, a scholarship award will be given annually to an incoming freshman who displays a leadership commitment to philanthropy, has a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or equivalent, and provides a letter of recommendation from at least one organization with whom they have worked.

CU Cheerleaders Take S.P.I.R.I.T to a New High
"We have spirit -- how about you?" challenged Clarion University cheerleaders as part of Spirit Day 2010. On March 24, the cheerleaders, joined by the phonathon students, provided information about the scholarship and accepted donations in Gemmell.
"The S.P.I.R.I.T. Scholarship was created by students, for students," said Theresa Edder. "If every Clarion student gave just $3, we would exceed our goal."
The giant thermometer in Gemmell keeps a running total of all donations made to the scholarship as visual evidence of support.
