The Art Department provides a major and minor in art as well as general education offerings in art for the general student population and the larger community. Through courses, exhibitions, research, and degree programs, the Art Department advances understanding and appreciation for the visual arts; trains professional artists through the B.F.A. degree; educates liberal arts students in the B.A. program; and represents the visual arts on campus and to the surrounding community. For art majors and minors, sound technical and design education in a broad variety of media serves as a basis for a rigorous course of study leading to the production of theoretically, esthetically, and technically sound artworks that imaginatively display a wide variety of meanings and modes of self-expression that are suited to the individual artist.
