Brooke Posley, a graduate student seeking a master's degree in library science at Clarion University, was awarded a $2,000 E.J. Josey Scholarship Award by submitting a winning essay in a competition sponsored by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association Inc. (BCALA).
Posley is a daughter of Al and Deborah Posley of Greenville, S.C. Her essay, "E.J. Josey Leaves and Enduring Mark on Society," was selected as one of two scholarship winners. Essays were judged on the basis of good argument development and ?critical analysis, clear language, conciseness, and creativity. The theme for the 2010 essay contest was "E.J. Josey, 1924-2009 American Activist and Library Leader."
The 2010 E J Josey Award Scholarship Committee of the BCALA sought essays that reflect and memorialize the life and accomplishments of the founder of the BCALA, former President of ALA, and library leader, social activist and humanitarian. Entrants had to use the MLA style and include a minimum of six bibliographical references.
The E. J. Josey Scholarships are two unrestricted grants of $2,000 awarded annually to African American students enrolled in or accepted by ALA accredited programs.
