Dr. Andrea Miller, professor of library science at Clarion University, conducted a day-long workshop for the librarians and staff of all of the public libraries in the Jefferson County Public Library System in December.
The workshop was conducted as a key element of a grant obtained by Darlene Marshall, Jefferson County Library Director, and other librarians in the system entitled "Connecting with Tween Readers." Miller serves as a consultant for this grant project.
The workshop had 3 major goals:
•To identify and understand the needs of the tween patron group;
•To recognize the best resources for building a collection of materials that will appeal to tweens, and;
•To create methods for building connections with tweens in their communities that they could take back with them to their home libraries and put into practice immediately.
Clarion University is the high-achieving, nationally recognized, comprehensive university that delivers a personal and challenging academic experience.
